Not All That Shines Is Gold

Orlando Movers

Moving is a competitive industry. In recent years such competition has led many moving companies in Orlando to become corrupt indignant towards providing good customer service. How so? Well it is all a chain reaction with movers in Orlando and across the nation. When an industry becomes too competitive then competition begins to drop the prices, however they raise the hidden fees.

It would simply not be profitable for low-balling Orlando moving companies to stick by the price they sold over the phone. Therefore they are well aware that disputes with customers are certain and ironically are trained for this. Since negative reviews are unavoidable, they conclude they might as well not only recover their loss of profit but triple the expenses, change company names, not strive to build a brand- this is where moving companies become dangerous. Read below to see some of the questions to ask and signal their sly tactics when speaking with them.

Wrapping Charges

This is the most common of all- wrapping charges. The customer is baited with a price over the phone usually a too good to be true hourly rate. Once the card is on file and the movers show up, they serve the customer with a lot of paperwork and mention that although the hourly rate has begun, they cannot start until the paperwork is filled. The customer in a hurry signs off on all the paperwork. However, the moving companies main sheet of interest is the “unreusable material consent” sheet. This sheet states charges that appear small but are quite large. Shrinkwrap at sixty cents a foot. One roll of shrinkwrap is 1000 ft on average. Meaning this moving company will likely use two rolls and charge you for $600 just in shrink wrap, all while saying they did you a favor in not charging you for the second one. Aside from the shrink wrap, they also likely charge approx. six dollars for every roll of tape (they will likely use fifteen rolls), twenty dollars a mattress bag, thirty-five dollars for every TV, and two dollars a foot for bubble wrap. Their foreman gets a twenty percent commision on the wrapping, so he will wrap everything. Your move just escalated from three hundred dollars to a thousand three hundred.

No Wrapping

There are the Orlando moving companies that charge very little as well and in order to compensate, they do not wrap anything. While these Orlando movers are more honest than the last, they are not much better. If your marble top table was damaged, your savings with that company are already non-existent. Suppose that not only your marble table was damaged, but also your TV, Couch, Dishes, Lamps- this moving company type could easily turn out to be the most expensive while appearing the cheapest.

Same Hours To Unload

This one is the better option from the previous mentions, yet not the best. This moving company type might include all the wrapping in a professional manner. However, their “policy” states that upon arriving at the drop off they must charge the same amount of hours to unload as they charged to load. They claim that its a good evaluation and protocol. However they well know unloading is always much faster than loading, on average taking a third of the time because no stacking or wrapping is required. Therefore they ended up charging an additional 3 hours that went completely unaccounted for. Meaning even if they charge thirty dollars an hour less than the standard, they are still much more expensive. What’s worse, if you don’t pay they will hold your items hostage and charge you even more.

Inexperienced Hires

The riskiest option is this moving company type. If a mover gets paid fourteen dollars an hour on average, they pay them ten dollars an hour. Meaning that for a four-man crew they are able to charge sixteen dollars less an hour and still profit the same. The problem with this is that movers work very hard, it’s a challenging job, so the only movers willing to work for ten dollars an hour usually are not able to find work anywhere else. You will then be bringing movers with a criminal record into your home, or best case scenario inexperienced movers.
